Kindle 5.19.6 Hides Two New Features: Collections Become "Tags," Plus Mic Voice Input

Collections reworked into multi-select "Tags"

Amazon's 5.19.6 notes only mention "performance improvements, bug fixes," but MobileRead users found that the Library's "Collections" have been reworked into "Tags": you can now add or remove as many tags as you like on a book, add or remove items within any tag, and browse everything under "All tags" in your Library. For big libraries, that's far more flexible than the old single-folder collections.

Microphone voice input: new models only

The other addition is microphone speech-to-text: when a device has a built-in mic, a microphone button appears on the keyboard and you can dictate text (internet required). This signals Amazon is paving the way for mic-equipped Kindles — currently the Kindle Scribe (3rd gen) and Colorsoft Scribe are known to have mics; older models don't. While dictation is active, VoiceView pauses and resumes after about 30 seconds of silence.

Both features shipped quietly without a mention in the release notes. Before updating, confirm your model supports them, and note that some jailbroken users still report unresolved AZW3 rendering quirks on 5.19.6.
