Not in the notes, but confirmed by testers
On August 4, 2026 Amazon shipped 5.19.6 for its current Kindle lineup. The changelog again read only "performance improvements, bug fixes, and other general enhancements." Yet testing across e-reader forums confirmed that this release quietly fixed two sideloaded-manga rendering bugs that had persisted for six months.
Where the bug began
The trouble traces back to the 5.19.2 update in February 2026. Alongside AI reading features and cloud-drive integration for Kindle Scribe, Amazon changed the rendering engine, breaking fixed-layout AZW3 files with unwanted margins and killing virtual panel navigation in sideloaded MOBI comics. Store-bought KFX manga ran through a separate path and was never affected, so only users who sideloaded their own files suffered for months.
What 5.19.6 fixes
- Restores correct rendering for AZW3 (including digital manga) — white borders gone;
- Restores virtual panel navigation in sideloaded MOBI comics;
- KFX content was unaffected throughout.
Why it matters to you
If you previously converted your library to KFX just to display comics correctly, you can return to the more universal AZW3/MOBI workflow. Before updating, consider cropping and pre-processing your comics with a tool like Ereadertoolbar for a cleaner two-page reading experience.
