No USB cable or computer required—everything runs directly on your Kindle, including support for unregistered devices
sparklerfish released SpiderCat, a brand-new jailbreak method, on September 1, 2026, via the KindleModding website. The method exploits a WebKit memory vulnerability triggered when Kindle parses KF8-format e-books injected with JavaScript. Technical details have not been disclosed by the author. With an extremely short procedure, this is widely regarded as the simplest and most convenient Kindle jailbreak solution to date.
Part 1: Requirements
SpiderCat supports the following Kindle devices running firmware versions 5.16.3 through 5.19.5 (including devices that cannot be registered to an Amazon account):
| Device Model | Abbreviation |
|---|---|
| Kindle Colorsoft | KC / CS |
| Kindle Scribe (2024) | KS2 |
| Kindle Scribe (2022) | KS1 |
| Kindle Oasis 3 | KO3 / KOA3 |
| Kindle Paperwhite 6 | KPW6 / PW6 |
| Kindle Paperwhite 5 | KPW5 / PW5 |
| Kindle Paperwhite 4 | KPW4 / PW4 |
| Kindle 11 (2024) | K11 / KT6 |
| Kindle 11 (2022) | K11 / KT5 |
| Kindle 10 | K10 / KT4 |
⚠️ Before You Begin:
- Ensure your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi with internet access (do not turn off Wi-Fi during the entire process)
- Strongly recommended: fill storage to under 100MB to prevent automatic firmware updates
- Delete any files with the .bin extension from the Kindle root directory
Part 2: Step-by-Step Instructions
The jailbreak process is extremely simple—just get the special e-book and open it. Everything runs directly on the Kindle—no computer or USB cable required.
Step 1: Get the SpiderCat E-Book
You can obtain the SpiderCat jailbreak e-book in one of two ways:
- Option 1 (Recommended): Download the file directly via the link below, then transfer it to your Kindle's
documentsfolder via USB cable:
📎 Download spidercat.azw3 - Place the downloaded spidercat.azw3 file into your Kindle's
documentsfolder (if you used Option 2, the file will be saved to your library automatically) - Option 2: Open the web browser via the three-dot menu on your Kindle, navigate to https://kindlemodding.org/spidercat/, and tap the 「Download SpiderCat」 link to download it directly
- Return to your Kindle library and tap to open the book titled SpiderCat
- After a moment, jailbreak-related information will appear on screen, indicating success

Step 2: Confirm Jailbreak Success
Once the jailbreak completes, SpiderCat will automatically disable automatic firmware updates on your Kindle. You can safely delete any files you used to fill storage space.
Part 3: Installing Plugins
KPM Package Manager
SpiderCat automatically installs KPM, a package manager for handling plugins. Common commands include:
| Action | Search Bar Command |
|---|---|
| Install KOReader | ;kpm install koreader |
| Upgrade KOReader | ;kpm upgrade koreader |
| Uninstall KOReader | ;kpm uninstall koreader |
For a full list of available commands, enter ;kpm in the Kindle search bar.
📌 Tip: SpiderCat is currently the only jailbreak method supporting the latest Kindle firmware versions. If you're on firmware 5.16.3–5.19.5, this is by far the simplest and most recommended solution.
